Experience: Dr Richard Sladden offers nearly three decades of expertise in Maltese law, with a practice spanning Litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Arbitration, Family Law, Planning Law, and Civil and Commercial Law, including representation in Church Tribunals. He began his career in 1995 as an associate at one of Malta’s premier law firms before founding Sladden & Sladden Advocates with his wife, Dr Sandra Sladden. Over the years, Dr Sladden has represented various local councils and major private entities in litigation and remains their trusted legal advisor to this day.

Apart from his work as a litigation lawyer, Dr Sladden has also acted in various other legal roles. Most notably, Dr Sladden is frequently appointed by the Superior Courts of Malta to act as Legal Expert and is also frequently appointed as a Court Expert by Inquiring Magistrates. Dr Sladden also serves as a Prosecutor in Local Tribunals and has presided over multiple boards and tribunals, including the Consumer Affairs Tribunal, the Licensing Appeals Board, the VAT Appeal Board, and currently chairs the Malta Football Association’s Protests Board.

In addition to his legal career, Dr Sladden has held various roles in corporate governance. He has served as company secretary for numerous public and private companies and as a director for public entities. His roles have included Board Secretary for the Public Transport Authority, the Lotteries & Gaming Authority, and Maltapost plc, and he has also served as a board member for the Housing Authority and a Director at the Malta Stock Exchange plc. Today, Dr Sladden is also the Honorary Secretary of the prestigious and Malta foremost private club, Casino Maltese.

A founding member of the Association of European Journalists (Malta Section), Dr Sladden’s career is further enriched by his contributions to diplomacy and journalism, having worked for various newspapers both locally and internationally, while also having acted as a presenter and producer of various news programmes. His diplomatic contributions include his role as Personal Assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, where he managed matters related to EU affairs, the Council of Europe, Bilateral relations, Press relations, and Party affairs.
